I almost threw the towel in today, wondering what was I thinking. It is not that I can’t find things to photograph, but rather the limitation of choosing just one photo. I remind myself it is my project, no rules other than a photo a day. But I know deep inside there is a deeper reason, a more focused objective. I am slowly learning to pay more attention. Losing myself a little bit while searching out deeper light, different perspectives in a place that I know like the back of my hand. Maybe tomorrow I will get out of my back yard.

today’s tiny little joys
a trip to the library with Percy and packing 14 books home with us
good news from the vet
watching the way the clouds move over the lake
an iced latte in the afternoon with oat milk
the kindness of our neighbors over and over again
***
today’s tiny little joys…
the quiet of the morning while drinking my latte on the deck
the smell of the honey suckle in our son and his wife’s yard
the way the sun filters through the trees as we drive home
organizing my lightroom catalog, finally! (such a chore but it feels so good.)
turkey burgers for dinner that were outstanding!

My friend Kate has the most amazing newsletter that she sends out monthly. In today’s issue she shared an article that included ways to make the world today a little bit lighter. One of the suggestions was to make a list of tiny little joys, or T.L.J.s that you encounter throughout out the day. I loved this idea! Thinking it was just the practice I was I was searching for when I started this project.
today’s T.L.J.,s
sleeping with the windows open
waking up to birds songs in the gardnen
the mother deer and her two fawns who joined us for stick class this morning
the first cantaloupe of the season
watching the neighbors pile their kids into the car with lake toys and floats.
book suggestions from a friend

marshmallow daisies in my garden
I am a third of the way through this project and I have learned a few more things.
I need to get back to what I envisioned…
an image, along with a few words to mark my day
somewhere along the way I started making it way too complicated
today ::
waking up with Percy in the house
July 4th plans made
digging out my sol 45 lens
a 6 eagle day, along with three deer
watching Percy study bugs and drawing them
“The most significant gifts are the ones most easily overlooked. Small, everyday blessings: woods, health, music, laughter, memories, books, family, friends, second chances, warm fireplaces, and all the footprints scattered throughout our days.”
~ Sue Monk Kidd
masterwort, taken with my sol 45
This stem of masterwort was the only flower still thriving in the bouquet I had placed on the dining room table a few days ago. . Last night I cleared the others out and threw them in the compost, leaving this one stem in the vase. This morning I decided I like the simpleness of this arrangement, the oversized vase, along with the way that the stem laid within in it and so, I left it alone in the vase and placed it back on the table.
I am learning that that simple is often better, as is slowing down and taking time to rethink my day and all the simple goodness that surrounds me.
today::
a clean bedside drawer on my side of the bed
the anticipation of Percy coming for a slumber party tonight
walking through the tomato plants while enjoying the smell they emit when I brush up against them
self-seeding herbs that come back every year, their fragrance filling the garden with fresh dill, arugula and cilantro
Baker resting his head in my lap as I read a bit on the couch
